I meditate just about every day. I have been since 1978. I also teach others how to quiet their mind and sit still. Science is finding proof and validating the benefits of meditation: it relieves stress, lowers blood pressure, promotes better sleep, encourages a sense of overall well-being, to name a few. But there comes a time when we still need to get up out of the chair or off the floor and deal with life. This is when the benefits of meditation are put into practical, daily use. The key is to bring the calmness of mind and emotions with you, wherever you go.Meditation-leaf

But what happens if we get too comfortable in our stillness? Can stillness actually turn into stagnation? I believe it can. Let me explain myself.

I am a small business owner. My business is called Healed Heart Hypnosis. Using hypnosis and other metaphysical, mind-science techniques I help people end unwanted habits and patterns of behavior, release past time emotional trauma and create an action plan to achieve their goals and dreams. As a small business owner it’s up to me to find the clients who need my help. I use the same manifestation techniques to help energize my practice that I teach my students and clients. I believe in the concept; where you put your attention, energy follows.

This means, through-out the day I am always thinking about my hypnosis practice. I am visualizing working with clients and having students in my classes. I am picturing and feeling my phone ringing or receiving emails or PayPal notices that my recordings have been purchased. I’m visualizing all this from a mind-set of gratitude as if everything has already happened, not with an attitude of ‘oh please let this work.’ See the difference? I practice these exercises while washing the dishes, cleaning the house, even when riding on the back of my husbands motorcycle. And I usually will always be contacted within the day by a potential new client or student.

With that said, I STILL need to implement physical activity. I work on my web site, send out mailers, write a blog, add content to my Google+ pages and other social network avenues – all the while, visualizing people contacting me. I know how easy it is to fall into the comfort zone of being self-employed, I see it all the time. And this is where I see stillness turning into stagnation. Lots of people get stuck in the meditating, metaphysical mind-set that the Universe will provide if ‘I just stay quiet and visualize all day.’. Yes, the Universe will provide, but there’s another saying; God helps those who help themselves.

You’ve got to be enthused to energize your business daily. Do something to keep the energy of your business in present time.

When was the last time you made a change on your web pages? When people go to your site and see the same thing over and over, or the date hasn’t been updated in six months to a year, they’re going to think you’re not in business anymore. Do something!

When was the last time you created a ‘Monthly Special’ or ‘Call to Action’? Do something!

This can also be applied to your business called LIFE! Are you stuck in a rut? Have you carved a groove into the zone of comfort and can’t seem to find a way out? Here’s a quick little exercise you can do.

Create three main goals for yourself. This can be three main goals for your business. Three main goals for finances. Three main goals for your lifestyle. Three main goals for your relationship space. You get the idea.

Ask yourself, how will my life be different once I achieve these goals? What will I be doing?

Now, what are the blocks you find yourself thinking about? I need an action plan. I don’t know where to find clients. I have to lose weight. I don’t have the money to do what I want to attract money. (That’s always a fun twist!)

These issues, blocks, beliefs are keeping you in that comfort zone of stagnation! It’s easier to stay where you are and dream than to get up and do something about it. I know, I’ve been there! So my challenge to you, is to – do something! Every day, do something to bring your business, your practice, your life onto a new level of existence. Don’t worry about the steps it will take to get there, just start.

It’s hard to believe four years have passed since the Universe offered me such a great opportunity for growth and change. And I’m not so sure the word ‘offer’ is quite accurate because at the time it felt like I had been punched in the stomach. I’ve never really spoken about what happened but so many people have asked me about this, I decided to share my story. Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to keep this short. Ish.

Since 1982 I had been involved with a non-profit organization whose original mission was to help individuals get in touch with the God of their Heart and establish a personal relationship with Divine Source. I was ordained as a minister in 1983, was appointed Assistant Pastor of the church in 1984 and held the office of Bishop from 1994 until my departure in 2011. Within the organization was a school for metaphysical studies and also a school for hypnosis training and certification, both of which I was a director and principle instructor.

Many internal changes took place through the years and eventually it became a sick and toxic place – only I didn’t quite see it at the time. Yes, I saw things shifting and moving away from the original intention of the organization but I also continued to believe, very deeply, in the original picture and mission of the church. So I kept smiling and doing my best to keep things flowing by being a good steward and shepherd of the flock. Then in June 2011 I was called to an impromptu Board meeting. There were three board members at the time, myself and two other women. The other two had decided (without a vote I might add) that they thought it would be best for the organization if I no longer received a monthly stipend for my services; that because there had been a decline in students it would financially help the organization if I worked for free. But, I could keep 20% of all the hypnosis work I did.

I think this is when I had my first real out of body experience. I could see them talking and smiling but I was floating far above them, as if in a tunnel. Their voices were muddled. I wasn’t comprehending the logic of what I had heard. No stipend. No income. How was I going to pay my rent? How were my husband and I going to make ends meet on one income? I came back into my body hearing these words, ‘Debi, we can’t lower our stipends because we have bills to pay, you understand!’ Oh yes, I did understand. I understood how, even though these two women did not pay rent or utilities or gas for their free cars, that they were both stuck in survival, lack and limitation. I understood that even though they taught the techniques and concepts and stood behind the pulpit in service they did not, in that moment, have the faith they professed to maintain. I also understood I was leaving.

I took a week to meditate on my next step to make sure I wasn’t having a knee jerk reaction before sending in my letter of resignation. I was devastated. I was hurt. I was really pissed off. And I was so scared. I always thought I’d be at that place for the rest of my life, helping people, teaching and healing. All my sense of personal value was stripped. I felt like I had nothing to offer. If the people I had known, worked with and loved for twenty-nine years didn’t see me as anyone with value or purpose how could I help anyone else? One thing became very clear to me. All my years in training of applying the techniques and concepts had brought me to this point in time. The teaching was about to begin.

Hypnosis: Every day I went into hypnosis to release the emotional pain I was experiencing. Situations from my childhood were also bubbling to the surface because the emotions were similar. It was amazing to see how much crap I was still holding on to from years before. After the intensity began to subside I used hypnosis to create my new image of who I wanted to become.

Prayer: I prayed. Constantly. Sometimes my prayers were more of a plea, often I found myself begging for some divine intervention of understanding. But mainly I prayed to have the anger removed from my space and to allow forgiveness to flow for the situation and everyone involved. This didn’t happen overnight, but the bubble finally popped and I was set free.

Hiking: My husband and I started walking and hiking. Every day. Nature became our sanctuary. It’s difficult to hold on to hurt feelings under a canopy of redwood trees. And breathing in fresh ocean air can cleanse your mind and rejuvenate your soul faster than any written script or sermon. So the outdoors became our pulpit for the new beginnings in which we had embarked upon. And we continue to walk or hike every day!

Within one month of resigning I started a new business and created a new web site. Today I am humbled by our ever abundant, gracious Father and Universe for sending people to me for whom I can offer help and solace. I’ve worked with more people these last four years on my own than I ever was able to attract at the other organization. The Lord does work in mysterious way. I regret nothing from the past and am so grateful for this journey and look forward to all the adventures yet to come. And that’s my story. Or at least a good chunk of it.

Spring is the time for renewal, growth and change. Days grow longer, more sun light is hitting the planet and buds and flowers are beginning to appear. It’s a time to check in with yourself to see if you are balanced and in harmony with your life. Spring is also the time to re-evaluate your goals. Have you brought anything into fruition from your goal setting? Maybe what you wanted a few months ago is no longer relevant or important to you.daffodils in vase

Go back to your list of goals you created a few months ago. What has manifested? Lots of my goals have already been brought into my life; the lease in my healing center was renewed with no rent change, I’ve been accepted to teach at the NGH Hypnosis Conference in August including a one day pre-convention class on marketing, our car was paid off several years sooner than we planned, I’ve been meeting new people – it’s awesome! How about you?

Look at your list and ask yourself if you still want/need everything you wrote down. Take those things off and create a new list in present time. Now continue with all the abundant living exercises I shared in the past posts. That’s right, you still need to continue working your mind and your energy! Think about a garden. Once the vegetables and flowers that were planted begin to grow, you still need to pull out the weeds and water the plants. It’s a continuous process. Or have you fallen into the trap of resting on your laurels and being lazy minded?

The first time my spiritual teacher told me I was lazy minded I was just about fit to be tied. How can that be? I work every day, I’m in class at night and weekends, I ride my bike everywhere because I don’t have a car and you’re telling me I’m lazy minded? He asked me how much time I spent practicing the spiritual/energy exercises I had learned. Was I watching my thoughts and catching negative thinking before it took hold? I had to admit I had not been doing any of that. Voila! he said, you’re being lazy minded. I was understanding the information from an intellectual conscious level but lacked the discipline to sit each day and apply what I had learned into my life. My excuse? I didn’t have time! Only when I sincerely put into practice what I had been taught did my life of abundance begin to manifest.

So now I ask you the same question: Are you resting on your laurels and being lazy minded? If things aren’t working for you, I encourage you to practice the exercises. Take a class in self-hypnosis. What? You reached some goals? That’s great! But you still need to till the soil of your subconscious mind or you risk falling back to sleep to the old habits and patterns that weren’t working for you. In 1975 I was traveling around the country and met an elderly woman in Sedona, Arizona. She was in her 90’s but looked much younger. She practiced iridology and was a juicing fanatic. She told me of people who had been cured of cancer and were in remission by following a strict juice regime. She explained how some of them had the cancer return because they got tired of preparing juice every day, it was too much work. They reverted to their old habits once they were given the ‘All Is Clear’ signal. Wow!

So if you attract something into your life, keep doing what you were doing to get it! If you want to attract a new relationship and get one, keep clearing your space to maintain the health of that relationship. If you were mocking-up health or weight loss and reach that goal be careful of throwing away the healing by reverting back to the unhealthy habits that caused you to be overweight and unhealthy.

Hypnosis/self-hypnosis is a powerful modality to create change and completely end unwanted, unhealthy habits and patterns. It’s important to keep working and strengthening your mental muscles so that you can truly live and maintain the abundant lifestyle that is rightfully yours! You can do this! Have fun!

oilsLet me start by saying I am not a fanatic bible thumping oiler. I’m not writing this blog to push anything on anyone. I just want to share how I’m using essential oils in conjunction with my hypnosis practice, with lots of positive results.

My original intention for purchasing a diffuser and a bunch of oils was to make my house and office smell nice. The more I started to learn about the specific use each oil had and the more I researched about the healing properties the oils hold, the more excited I became. Now I use the oils every day, in both my home and healing center. The oils I purchase are from Young Living. After doing my own research on various companies I chose Young Living because the quality of their oils is superior than others I have purchased in the past. I found it interesting to learn that many essential oil companies either dilute the oils with other products or bottle the oils after the second or third distilling which renders the quality of the oils much weaker and not as effective. Take lavender for example. Pure 100% lavender is fabulous for treating burns and I always have a bottle in my kitchen. However, if you buy lavender that says it’s pure but has an additive in it, you could possibly make the burn worse. So my rule of thumb with anything I buy is ‘pay a bit more and get the best.’

I use essential oils in my hypnosis practice as another tool in the tool box. Before I see a client I’ll start diffusing an oil that will help alleviate the issue they are working on. I have a client who suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Before she comes in I make sure I have a combo of lemon and peppermint diffusing in the air. Both of these oils are great for lethargy and energy loss and helps boost mental clarity. Another client has so much on her agenda that she’s always feeling scattered and has a hard time winding down. I’ll have an essential oil blend called Gathering in the diffuser when she arrives. Gathering combines galbanum, frankincense and sandalwood oils. Together they help to collect emotional and spiritual energy, helping to enhance the state of wholeness and unity. Before we start the session I dab Stress Away on her wrists and temples to assist in the relaxation process. Then I proceed with the hypnosis, helping her go to the source of when these hectic patterns of behavior were first imprinted into her subconscious mind.

I love creating an environment and holding the space for healing and positive change to occur. When people see me for spiritual guidance and deeper emotional issues I’ll often include in the session a powerful healing technique called Christ Force Healing. This involves placing my hands on the soles of their feet to help channel this powerful Universal Energy through their body. I first anoint the bottoms of their feet with frankincense oil. This is an ancient oil that helps rid anxiety, sadness and despair and is useful for visualizing and improving one’s spiritual connection and centering. I received an email from one of my clients after she received this healing and she said, “Since that session with you, a whole layer of my depression has lifted, and I don’t believe it will return.” This was four months ago and I’m happy to say she continues to be well. Please note, that as a hypnotist and oil user, I don’t treat, diagnose or cure. I simply use the oils as an aide as I guide people into their subconscious mind for self-discovery and inner change. This is called Transformational Healing.

My desire is to help people release anything that blocks them from living a life of health, wealth and abundance. I will use whatever tools I have to assist them in that process.

You have the power and the ability to make this year your best one yet. That’s right, and wishing and hoping has nothing to do with it!

It’s not about New Years Resolutions. It’s not about creating goals. It’s not about what you wish and hope will happen. It’s about making a decision and keeping your mind focused on the positive once that decision has been made! What kind of decision you ask? How about deciding to stay more positive in the face of adversity? How about dedicating a few minutes every day for quiet, inner reflection? How about deciding to cancel out the negative chatter before you think those thoughts too long? How about finding five things each day that you’re thankful for? How about doing service work someplace once a month? Decide to do these steps and you will have created your best year yet. The rest of what you want to manifest will easily follow.

Are goals important? Yes! Why? Because you need to have a picture to focus on. Remember, the Universe is a bountiful, gracious, 360ยบ Giver. But it needs a form in which to pour itself into. Imagine a pitcher full of clear refreshing water. You are very thirsty. Won’t that water taste great? The Universe wants to give you this water. But if you don’t have a glass, where will the water go? The same is true with goals. You need to have a clear picture with what you want. “I want to be happy” isn’t a clear picture, there’s no place to pour that water. “I will walk for twenty minutes every morning and I will be happy” is a picture.

The next step is to take some time, each day, to imagine yourself walking those twenty minutes every morning. Really get into it. Imagine you can smell the smells, feel the morning air, hear the sounds and FEEL the happiness! Then, let it go! You’ve just sent your order to the Universe. You’ve wrapped that order with images and feelings (positive emotions). Now the Universe has a form to pour its life-giving energy into. Take time each day to energize this goal, this mock-up, and sooner than you think you’ll find yourself walking for twenty minutes every morning without any effort at all.

How would this apply to a long-term goal? Let’s pretend you want to buy a new car. You don’t know how this will happen, you just know you want a new car. Start looking in magazines for the type of car you want. Cut out pictures and put them on a board that you can see every day. Visit some car dealerships and go on test drives. Get the feeling of this new car. Don’t worry about the when and how it will manifest.

Each day, spend time imagining you have that new car, just like your morning walk exercise. Imagine you’re driving it, feel the excitement, the happiness etc. Then….let it go! Once again, you’ve just sent a powerful picture to the Universe of what you want to bring into your life.

Law of Assumption: Here’s the missing ingredient to the Law of Attraction. Once you’ve taken the time to do the mental work of picturing and feeling what you want, get up and ACT as if you already have it! Pretend your present car is that brand new one. Pretend you have it parked in the driveway or on the street. Don’t allow the thoughts of doubt to creep in. (If you have not yet read and worked with my previous posts on how to let go of the old patterns, I encourage you to do so!) Keep your mind focused on the decision that you made. Then trust that the Universal Giver will honor those thoughts when the timing is best.

Testimony: This is how I got my new car. When I resigned from my church I had to return the company car. That summer I was driving my daughter around in her car because she had knee surgery and couldn’t drive. As I was driving her car I kept wondering what my new car would be. As I was driving her car I kept imagining it was my new car. I did this every time I was driving her car. Less than two months after returning to Berkeley my husband found a car he wanted me to look at: it was the exact car my daughter had; same brand, same make, same everything, just the color was different.

Testimony #2: My husband decided he wanted a new car. I told him to go for it, the Universe would provide. Once he decided to buy the car, I received many new clients and students – the same day he made the decision. See?

You can use this technique to manifest anything: A new place to live, a new office, a relationship, better health. Get a clear picture of what you want. Picture and feel what it’s like to have it, then live each day as if it’s already yours!

Is there work involved? Yes, but if you’ve been working with these posts you’ll discover it isn’t work at all. It’s an exciting journey as you discover your power and ability to create your future starting now!

Santa-listBefore I share the next exercise, here’s a quick review of the exercises I’ve offered so far on our quest for living the abundant life.

We started with the Purge List: Writing down all the hurts, resentments and misgivings, those complaints and pet peeves you’ve been carrying around with you for so long. This began the process of stirring up and purging negativity from your subconscious mind.

Next I posted the Forgiveness Exercise video. This helped you release the past-time pain pictures so you could start healing your emotional body.

After that we focused on all the different areas of life where we had uncomfortable feelings. The categories for this were Physical, Emotional, Mental, Financial and Spiritual. The idea is that when we admit we have uncomfortable thoughts and feelings towards people, places and conditions in our life, we have let the light shine on those dark corners and the situations no longer have power over us. This work was done while listening to Mary Poppins singing her happy tune, ‘Just A Spoonful Of Sugar’! The exercise was completed by counting your blessings for all the positive things you are thankful for in your life today. This started to flip the polarity in your subconscious mind and re-frame your mind to focus on the positive which helped set the tone for a grateful Thanksgiving.

New Exercise: Your Wish List!

We’re still in the cleansing process but starting to put attention on what we want to manifest for the new year. Get your paper and pen ready. For those of you who grew-up celebrating Christmas with Santa Claus, this is akin to the letters we’d write to him each year, asking to leave all those fabulous toys under the Christmas Tree. There’s a great prosperity lesson within those letters to Santa that I’ll share in another post!

Step 1:
Write down everything you want to bring in to your life. The small and the big, the medium to the ginormous! Don’t worry about how you’ll be able to manifest each item. Take some time and focus on what you’d really like to have. Be sure to include good health on your wish list!

Step 2:
Get your mind quiet. Go back over the list and write down next to each item all the reasons why you can’t have those things. “I don’t have enough money, I don’t have enough time, I don’t have the space…” You get the idea! What you’re doing is shedding light on the blocks in your subconscious mind. These blocks have turned into beliefs. I bet you really do believe those reasons that dictate why you can’t manifest something! A belief is something we consistently think, picture and feel about ourselves and the world around us. It’s time to change your belief system, don’t you agree?

Step 3:
After you’ve completed Step 2, take a little break, then get your mind quiet again. Go back over your wish list and with each item ask the question, ‘who does not want me to have this?’ Don’t try to think of the answer. From the quiet stillness simply let a name come into your awareness. Why is this step important? Because quite often we get stuck in life based on how other people want us to be. People get comfortable when they have access to us, be it emotionally, physically – even spiritually. When we change our vibration by creating positive change in our life, those individuals get bumped out of their comfort zone and have to adjust. Another reason someone may appear next to an item on your wish list is because they’re in competition with you. If they can’t have something they certainly don’t want you to have it! This doesn’t mean these individuals are bad people. You’re simply beginning to discern energy in your space. There’s an old saying; misery not only loves company, it seriously demands it! Let yourself have fun with this process.

Step 4:
Now you’re going to burn everything you’ve written! Your Wish List with the reasons you can’t have those things and the names of the people who don’t want you to have them. That’s right! Get a big bowl or metal container and burn the paper. Watch the flames. Fire is a very powerful cleansing symbol for your subconscious mind. This action represents you releasing the old beliefs and purging your subconscious mind, clearing the way to begin planting the new seed ideas you want to be experiencing in 2015.

tombstoneAdded Bonus Exercise:
If you REALLY want to have some fun, write these words on separate pieces of paper: Can’t. Won’t. Shouldn’t. Impossible. Fear. Now go outside and have a funeral for those words. Bury them in the ground. Make the decision those words and the beliefs that are attached to them are dead to you. Say your good-byes and get rid of them! Anytime you find yourself thinking those dead words you will remember that you buried them and you’ll flip your mind in that instant, back to the positive way of thinking!

After the Winter Solstice on December 21st I’ll begin posting the exercises for manifesting. The energy flips on the Solstice, the purging season is complete and we focus on the Light and new awareness! Until then, keep up the good work of letting go!

As we move into this Holiday Season, I invite you to take a moment and reflect on everything you are truly thankful for in life. Too often days are spent with unconscious complaining about the smallest things; no place to park, being stuck in traffic or waiting too long in the check-out line at the grocery store. But when you think about it, these are the complaints of a very prosperous nation. Are these really problems? I don’t believe so. Annoyances at most, but not real problems.

I was blessed to spend Thanksgiving day with a friend who hosted a dinner for a group of men recently paroled from prison. For several, this was their first ‘free’ Thanksgiving in more than 21 years. These individuals became certified alcohol drug counselors while incarcerated who are now counselors at a recovery treatment program in the Bay Area. As we went around the table saying what we were thankful for, I was humbled by their positive attitude and true gratitude for life. It confirmed for me, once more, that I really have no problems in my life. Challenges, yes. Annoyances, of course. But problems? Not at all! What about you?

When you give thanks for all the positive things in your life, you are energizing your life with positive energy. I remember saying this on a live, call-in radio show I used to host many years ago. A man called-in saying he liked what I said but he really had nothing positive to focus on. He lost his family in a divorce, he lost his job in the dot-com-bomb and was living in his car, homeless.

I simply pointed out the obvious things: He had ears with which to listen to the radio show, he had a mouth to speak his opinion, his body was healthy and he had a car to sleep in, not to mention whatever phone he was using to call the show. Start where you are, I told him and the ripples would begin to expand. He actually started to laugh. He had a change in perspective.

In order to live the abundant lifestyle it’s important to bless and accept exactly where you are in the moment, not where you want to be. Once you allow yourself to be happy where you’re at, you’ll recognize you don’t have to stay there and changes will begin to take place.

Each day, give thanks for a minimum of five things in your life. I’d prefer you count off ten or twenty things each day, but we’ll start with small steps. Do this daily and your energy will increase, you’ll start thinking happier thoughts and you’ll start feeling better. Remember, where you put your attention, energy follows. Put your attention on the good and more good will be added to you.

Now here’s a tease for my next post as we move into the exercises for manifesting your goals and dreams: Take time each day to give thanks for the things you want that haven’t manifested in your life yet. Give thanks as if you already have them!
