I was working with a client with my Abundant Living Program™. On our first day together I asked her what she wanted. “World peace” she replied. “OK”, I said, “but I don’t think you’ll get that in the time we have together, can you think of something else?” She thought for a bit then said “I’m always praying to keep my children and grandchildren safe and healthy.” “Well, that’s nice too and I’m sure your kids appreciate your prayers, but what is that YOU want for yourself?” She was stumped. And then she started to cry. Then she told me that she’s never been able to ask for anything personal and when she prays, it’s always for other people.

I asked her what she felt emotionally when she thought of praying for herself. Guilty.

I asked her what she felt emotionally when she wanted to manifest something for herself. Guilty and unworthy. Her truth – she’s never believed it was okay to want something just for her. And that’s why she was working with me, to break the cycle of lack and limitation so she could manifest abundance in her life.

Wanting something and believing you can have something are two different things. I discovered this when I first started my journey with manifestation and the Mind Sciences. I was in a class learning how to ‘mock-up’ or manifest things in life. The techniques and concepts were simple and made perfect sense to me. I was excited that soon I’d have all the things I wanted to help make my life more comfortable. I started with easy things like a free cup of coffee. Lo and behold, a few days after practicing the exercise, I was invited out for a cup of coffee. I knew I was on to something now!

At the time my only mode of transportation was a ten-speed bike. The rainy season was drawing near so I sat down one day and mocked-up a new car. I was seeing the car, imagining I was driving the car, looking forward to receiving my new car. I just wasn’t paying attention to the small voice inside of me saying ‘no way’ or the feeling of doubt I had about this car. What could go wrong? I was applying the information exactly as I had been taught.

The next time class met everyone was sharing their experiences. A student was all excited because she had been given a new car. A car much nicer than the one she already had. A car that was very similar to the car I had mocked-up for myself. I didn’t get a car, but she did. I think I actually cried a little and blurted out ‘you got my car and you don’t even need one!’ Our teacher used my experience as the object lesson for class that night.

I discovered my subconscious mind was acting on a deep rooted belief system of lack, limitation and no permission to increase or bring new things into my life. Not only did I feel guilty if I asked for something for myself, I didn’t believe I could have things that easily. I had to work hard for whatever I received.

This was a two-fold imprint in my subconscious mind. One aspect was the thoughts and feelings I was carrying deep within me that stemmed from my childhood and the conversations I heard my parents talking/fighting about over money. Money doesn’t grow on trees, only certain people get ahead in life…. you get the idea.

The other aspect was based in religion. It wasn’t spiritual to want things. Don’t be greedy. Don’t be selfish. Always think of the other person first. To be spiritual meant you shouldn’t have money or nice things. Has anyone reading this post ever experienced something similar?

What about you? Do you have a difficult time creating a picture for what you want? Do you feel guilty if you ask for something or pray for yourself? Do you say you want certain things but deep down don’t believe you can have them? This can be anything; health, finances, relationships, or a successful business.

I’ll include simple exercises you can do to help clear out your subconscious mind so you can manifest more abundant living.

All healing is awakening and remembering who we are – spirit. We are not just the physical body, but spirit; the living consciousness that gives the body its life and animation. Why don’t we already know this? Why do we have to be reminded? We are born into a state of forgetfulness. We are asleep to our spiritual identity.

Let me give you an example to better explain this concept. When an actor goes to Hollywood to be in a movie, they are given a script about the character they will portray. The character has a certain type of personality and the movie has a storyboard about the character’s life. When an actor really gets involved in their role and believes they are that person for the duration of the filming, they usually win the Oscar. We all believed they were the character as well; we temporarily forgot we were watching an actor playing a part.

When you were born you were given a role to play. The character’s name was whatever mom and dad named you. The storyboard you were given about this character is the life you grew up in: Your name is John. You are Catholic. You will grow up to be a doctor, marry and have three kids, etc. See the correlation? All the information about your life “storyboard” went into your subconscious mind, the storehouse of memory of all the things you’ve ever done in your life.

This became the foundation of who and what you believe you are. When you became an adult and attempted to create a change or do something that went against the information, is when you experienced effort, guilt, failure etc. These issues of guilt, effort or failure can also manifest as a physical problem in your body.

Maybe you’re overweight, or have chronic pain or suffer from insomnia, to give just a few examples. All healing is awakening to who you are, and when you tap into your true power within is when you can effectively create positive, permanent change in your life. This is where utilizing hypnosis to experience the connection of your body, mind and spirit comes into play.

Through hypnosis you are able to alter your consciousness and can then change your perspective to create a positive change in your life. When properly guided with a facilitator, you can rise above the belief that says you’re just a body, and get in touch with who you are as spirit. This is when you can really learn how to use your mind to keep yourself well. You realize you have power to choose the type of thinking you want to entertain which brings forth health and well being, financially, mentally, spiritually and physically. It’s putting the Law of Attraction into your life in a positive, conscious modality. When you are aligned in body, mind and spirit you become empowered to be the architecture of your life dreams.

  Meditation and hypnosis are often seen as one and the same. The truth is, they are not. Let me explain why.
Meditation is an emptying out process. It’s a time to quiet the mind and still the thoughts that run through your head all day long. To properly meditate, you need to stop thinking. However, this isn’t as easy as that may sound.

When I first started meditating, my mind was going something like this: “Okay, I’m going to sit here for thirty minutes and not think. Okay, now I’m thinking about how I’m not suppose to be thinking. Right, now I’m thinking about what to eat for dinner and that cute little dress I saw in the store window the other day.”

Sound familiar? Once we’re caught up in the thought stream of the world, it’s hard to unhook. The thought stream is from the analytical part of our mind, the conscious mind. We can stay caught-up in thoughts for a very long time. Often, those thoughts are not even our own!
Why meditate? Science has proven that meditation helps lower blood pressure, release stress and gives you an overall feeling of peace and well-being. Even with the high stress and tension people experience in their fast paced daily lives, meditation helps to slow things down and puts life in a different perspective. The problems are still there, but now there is a different way to handle the situations.

Spiritually, we meditate to re-connect ourselves to our Source. Whatever name label you have for “God”, meditation is a time of quiet inner-reflection, to become united with the God of your heart. Prayer is when you talk to God, meditation is when you get quiet and allow God to talk to you. It’s difficult to hear with all that babble going on!

If meditation is an emptying out process, what are we releasing? The thoughts that have you believing there is something wrong with you. The thinking you entertain that says you are not already connected with God, or that you have to be good and perfect to be accepted by your Creator. In short – the hypnotic state you’ve been in that has you believing you are not okay, just the way you are.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind we go into everyday. Getting caught up in a good book or movie, studying for an exam and losing track of time are simple examples of being in hypnosis. To go into hypnosis and enter into the subconscious mind, you must by-pass the critical factor of the conscious mind – the thought stream!

This can be done quickly, easily and effectively. One does not need to be relaxed to go into trance, relaxation is a by-product of having been in hypnosis. Why? Because you have relaxed the body and mind together, which allows the nervous system to flush out all the pent-up stress and tensions. This is why one hour of hypnosis is equal to eight hours of sleep; the mind is guided into slowing down the brainwaves, simply by following the instructions given by the facilitator. When the mind relaxes, it is able to let go.

Why isn’t hypnosis the same as meditation? When you are being guided through a creative visualization session by someone, it may be called meditation, but you are establishing selective thinking based upon what the person is saying. Spiritually, we are in hypnosis all the time. People are “asleep” to who they are as a spirit, living in a body. They are in a trance state of believing to be the body/personality, with all the issues and problems causing the stress and tensions.

Hypnosis is a wonderful, powerful tool to locate the reasons as to why you are stuck believing certain things, such as those mentioned above. Once you find the source of the problem, you can let it go! Once you let it go, your mind has been emptied out from that quality of thinking.

This is why hypnosis is a great way to enhance meditation. You can use the scientific approach of hypnosis to enter into your subconscious mind. Once in trance, you can release the old thinking patterns. Once you’ve done that and your mind is clear, you can move into a quiet state of meditation. You’ve reconnected with yourself as spirit. I see this in people all the time; they’ve been guided through a trance/hypnosis session and when it’s over, they are incredibly quiet – no thoughts, just peace and quiet.

That’s the meditative state. The door to get there? Hypnosis. It’s the fastest way to hop out of the thought stream. But hypnosis will not take you through that door. Hypnosis will show you why things are the way they are, and how things can be if you choose to alter your thinking. Once you’ve done that, now meditate. This is the only way to awaken to your higher good, and all healing is awakening to who we are, isn’t it? Yes it is!

I remember being told as a child to count my blessings, but the suggestion always had a negative attachment to it; “There are starving people in Africa, you’d better count your blessings you have food to eat every day…you better count your blessings I didn’t ground you for a week after what you just did.” This one always got me; “Your father will be home from work soon and you’d better count your blessings that he’ll be in a good mood.” So for me, counting my blessings was nothing more than pleading to God that some horrific catastrophe wouldn’t strike our lives! This is NOT what this blog post is about.

There is indeed a very positive and very powerful phenomenon that happens when you start to count your blessings; you begin to feel better about yourself and your life – really! To bless means to energize. When you count your blessings you are focusing your mind on all the positive aspects you have in the moment and energizing them, rather than energize all the negative stuff going wrong. Whatever type of thought you think releases a specific physiological response throughout your body.

People who suffer from depression are known to lack a “normal” amount of serotonin in their brain. This is the “feel good” chemical naturally produced in the body. When you think positive thoughts, which is what you are doing when you are putting your attention on all the good things you have going for you, your brain is releasing the corresponding chemical resulting in the overall feeling of peace and well being.

Go ahead and try this right now. Think about something that makes you mad or unhappy and frown while doing so. Notice what you feel. Now think about something that makes you happy and smile at the same time. Notice the difference?

But Debi, I just don’t have anything in my life to bless. Oh really? You’re reading this article right now. Bless your healthy eyes! Bless your ability to know how to read! Start by blessing your physical body and work your way out from there. Do you have a roof over your head? Food to eat? Maybe it’s not the home of your dreams right now, but it’s a start.

I also know it’s easy to say think positive thoughts when the pattern has been to allow the negative self-talk to take dominion over our minds. And, faced with monthly bills, health issues or a broken relationship it can be difficult to consistently find something for which you are thankful. This is where utilizing hypnosis plays a powerful role in creating a healthy new mind-set filled with positive thoughts every day!

All habits, including the habit of negative or positive thinking, is created in the subconscious mind. Think of an old fashioned record where the needle goes around and around in a groove. This is like the pattern of thoughts we entertain. If you have a long running habit of negative self-talk, then attempt to think one positive thought, the needle will bounce right back into the groove which has been energized over and over again. However, you can go into your subconscious mind and from that state, think positive thoughts, and they will be accepted! You will soon create a new habit of healthy thinking.

Still have doubt? This is an exercise I love to do with my clients. Your subconscious mind has all the memory of every experience you’ve ever had, good or bad. Within these experience memories are the emotional feelings attached to the situation. When my client is in trance I have their subconscious mind bring them back to a happy day in their childhood. It is as if they are right there, re-experiencing the day all over again. The feeling of childlike, carefree happiness is very strong. Now we can take that feeling and bring it into the present moment, while they are focusing on the positive aspects of their life. The results are powerful; they are focusing on the present, while feeling a real emotion of happiness. They have created a new imprint which helps them become successful in counting their blessing and thinking positive, prosperous thoughts every day.

Begin right now. Take a moment and start counting your blessings for everything positive in your life. Do this every day and in a very short amount of time, you will notice a vast difference in how you feel about yourself and the world around you. The right use of your mind is the key to healthy, happy, prosperous, successful living.

As we head into the new year I thought it would be fun to re-introduce this exercise for raising prosperity consciousness. Enjoy!

I’ve been pondering on the “New Thought” movement that became popular in the 1800’s. People like Quimby, Holmes, Mary-Baker Eddy (who was actually a student of Quimby), Wattles, Fillmore and the rest. It’s interesting how this collective group of consciousness was downloaded to so many people at about the same time. Now I’m not a historian so no dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s here. But what became known as the New Thought Movement was, to me, a way of thinking introduced on the planet by Jesus. Yes, yes I know people before him were aware of this consciousness. Let’s just say He did a really good job of making a global impact on a new way to think!

Before I became certified in hypnosis I had been a practitioner of metaphysical intuitive awareness. Intellectually I understood how thoughts become things and how we are the creators of our own Universe. But it wasn’t until I dove into the realms of hypnosis and everything that topic held, that I really began to ‘get it’ and started cultivating a prosperity mind-set.

One of my intentions for starting this blog site is to help people foster a new attitude of thinking. I will share my personal journey, which includes times of absolutely no money to enjoying all the fruits this abundant Universe has to offer. To start, I’d like to share a simple exercise that will help you flip your mind from seeing your proverbial cup of life as half empty, to being half full and even overflowing! I call this….. The Prosperity Stroll! Have fun!

Step 1: Grab a piece of paper and a pen

Step 2: Stroll through your life. Begin with your home. Write down everything you own. Everything, from clothing to appliances to entertainment items to food you have in your home right now. Everything.

Step 3: Move outside. Do you have a yard? Write down everything you own in your yard. Do you have a vehicle? Write that down!

Step 4: Write down bank accounts and cash on hand.

Step 5: Next to each item you now have listed, put down the approximate cash value of each thing.

Step 6: Add all the numbers up and see what you get as an approximate cash value of your life, right now.

Most of my clients and students are shocked when they see how much they actually have in present time. We are so conditioned to project our thoughts, desires and dreams out into the future that we miss what we have right now. I encourage you to do the Prosperity Stroll. It’s fun and you will amaze yourself!
