Happy-New-Year-Banner-3You have the power and the ability to make this year your best one yet. That’s right, and wishing and hoping has nothing to do with it!

It’s not about New Years Resolutions. It’s not about what you wish and hope will happen. It’s about making a decision and keeping your mind focused on the positive aspect once that decision has been made! What kind of decision you ask? How about deciding to stay more positive in the face of adversity? How about dedicating a few minutes every day for quiet, inner reflection? How about deciding to cancel out the negative chatter before you think those thoughts too long? Decide to do these steps and you will have created your best year yet. The rest of what you want to manifest will easily follow. And that’s what I want to talk about now!

Goals! Are goals important? Yes, goals are important because you need to have a specific picture to focus on when thinking about what you want. Remember, the Universe is a bountiful, gracious, 360º Giver. But it needs a form in which to pour itself into. Imagine a pitcher full of clear refreshing water. You are very thirsty. Won’t that water taste great? The Universe wants to give you this water. But if you don’t have a glass, where will the water go? The same is true with goals. You need to have a clear picture with what you want. “I want to be happy” isn’t a clear picture, there’s no place to pour that water. “I will walk for twenty minutes every morning and I will be happy” is a picture.

STOP!!!! Don’t go any further in this post until you’ve answered this next section.

First question. What is a goal you really want to bring into your life? Be daring, right here, right now, and declare what it is you want to do for yourself. Don’t say a goal you think you should want or what you think other people want you to want (because that isn’t confusing!) I’m asking you to declare a goal for you!

For example, one of my big goals for 2016 is to actually start writing the book that has been brewing inside of me for so long. This may not seem like a big deal, but this is the first year I’ve actually declared that as MY goal! So what is it for you? Write it down on an index card.

Next question. Why did you choose that goal? Again, this is honesty and specificity for you. This is the soul purpose or the heart of your goal.

As a hypnotist, I help people quit smoking all the time. When I ask them why they want to be a non-smoker they’ll usually say ‘because it’s bad for me’. That may be a true reason but it’s not a very happy reason to quit smoking. After some thought I’ll hear things like: I want to quit so I can save money. I want to quit so I can watch my grandchildren get married. See the difference? So what is your why for that goal? Write it down on an index card.

Last question: How are you going to accomplish this? Every goal to be reached should have at least five objectives, or action steps. Take a moment and write down five action steps you can do to help you reach your goal. These action steps are the ‘how to’ for your goal.

Keep these index cards with you. You might want to keep a set in your purse or wallet so you can read them during the day and another set by your bed at night. Read the cards right before drifting off to sleep and then again before getting out of bed in the morning. This is the first step in imprinting your subconscious mind with what you want to attract into your life.

The next step is to take some time, each day, to imagine yourself already doing, being, having your goal. Really get into it. Imagine yourself using all your senses, as if you’ve already accomplished the goal. How does it feel? Then, let it go!

You’ve just sent your order to the Universe. You’ve wrapped that order with images and feelings (positive emotions). Now the Universe has a form to pour its life-giving energy into. Take time each day to energize this goal and sooner than you think you’ll be amazed to realize you’ve attained it.

Law of Assumption: Here’s the missing ingredient to the Law of Attraction. Once you’ve taken the time to do the mental work of picturing and feeling what you want, get up and ACT as if you already have it! Don’t allow the thoughts of doubt to creep in. (If you have not yet read and worked with my previous posts on how to let go of the old patterns, I encourage you to do so!) Keep your mind focused on the decision that you made, then trust that the Universal Giver will honor those thoughts when the timing is best.

May 2016 be your best year yet – make it so!

Love and Blessings to all who wander by to read this post.

Little house in the woods on New Year's night

You have the power and the ability to make this year your best one yet. That’s right, and wishing and hoping has nothing to do with it!

It’s not about New Years Resolutions. It’s not about creating goals. It’s not about what you wish and hope will happen. It’s about making a decision and keeping your mind focused on the positive once that decision has been made! What kind of decision you ask? How about deciding to stay more positive in the face of adversity? How about dedicating a few minutes every day for quiet, inner reflection? How about deciding to cancel out the negative chatter before you think those thoughts too long? How about finding five things each day that you’re thankful for? How about doing service work someplace once a month? Decide to do these steps and you will have created your best year yet. The rest of what you want to manifest will easily follow.

Are goals important? Yes! Why? Because you need to have a picture to focus on.

The next step is to take some time, each day, to imagine yourself walking those twenty minutes every morning. Really get into it. Imagine you can smell the smells, feel the morning air, hear the sounds and FEEL the happiness! Then, let it go! You’ve just sent your order to the Universe. You’ve wrapped that order with images and feelings (positive emotions). Now the Universe has a form to pour its life-giving energy into. Take time each day to energize this goal, this mock-up, and sooner than you think you’ll find yourself walking for twenty minutes every morning without any effort at all.

How would this apply to a long-term goal? Let’s pretend you want to buy a new car. You don’t know how this will happen, you just know you want a new car. Start looking in magazines for the type of car you want. Cut out pictures and put them on a board that you can see every day. Visit some car dealerships and go on test drives. Get the feeling of this new car. Don’t worry about the when and how it will manifest.

Each day, spend time imagining you have that new car, just like your morning walk exercise. Imagine you’re driving it, feel the excitement, the happiness etc. Then….let it go! Once again, you’ve just sent a powerful picture to the Universe of what you want to bring into your life.

Law of Assumption: Here’s the missing ingredient to the Law of Attraction. Once you’ve taken the time to do the mental work of picturing and feeling what you want, get up and ACT as if you already have it! Pretend your present car is that brand new one. Pretend you have it parked in the driveway or on the street. Don’t allow the thoughts of doubt to creep in. (If you have not yet read and worked with my previous posts on how to let go of the old patterns, I encourage you to do so!) Keep your mind focused on the decision that you made. Then trust that the Universal Giver will honor those thoughts when the timing is best.

Testimony: This is how I got my new car. When I resigned from my church I had to return the company car. That summer I was driving my daughter around in her car because she had knee surgery and couldn’t drive. As I was driving her car I kept wondering what my new car would be. As I was driving her car I kept imagining it was my new car. I did this every time I was driving her car. Less than two months after returning to Berkeley my husband found a car he wanted me to look at: it was the exact car my daughter had; same brand, same make, same everything, just the color was different.

Testimony #2: My husband decided he wanted a new car. I told him to go for it, the Universe would provide. Once he decided to buy the car, I received many new clients and students – the same day he made the decision. See?

You can use this technique to manifest anything: A new place to live, a new office, a relationship, better health. Get a clear picture of what you want. Picture and feel what it’s like to have it, then live each day as if it’s already yours!

Is there work involved? Yes, but if you’ve been working with these posts you’ll discover it isn’t work at all. It’s an exciting journey as you discover your power and ability to create your future starting now!

Blessings to all and Happy New Year!

ImageIf all your unspoken thoughts had been written down this year, what do you think the main theme or quality of these thoughts would be? Were most of your days in 2013 spent rejoicing and giving thanks for everything in your life? Did you start and end each day with a prayer of gratitude? Did you take the time to find at least one positive event in each of the 365 days? If not, why not?

The thoughts we think, backed by the emotional intensities of those thoughts are what propels us into the future. The truth is, we are creating our future in every moment based on the thoughts we are thinking. Yikes!

If you yearn to create positive change for 2014 I encourage you to learn how to re-frame your mind. There’s many simple, effective exercises you can do that will help you catch those negative thoughts before they take control.

1. Keep a complaint journal. Every time, and I do mean every time, you find yourself complaining, write it down! Write down the complaint, the time of day, where you are and who you are with at that moment. Then, write down something positive about that same situation. You’ll be surprised how many entries you have after one week. I did this many years ago and was shocked to see how much I complained without realizing it! I was more surprised a month or so later when I recognized I had stopped complaining! I felt better. I was happier. I smiled more. And all I did was adjust my attitude!

What’s the significance of writing down the people you’re with when logging the complaints? This is an interesting part of the exercise to learn how other people may effect your mood and thoughts. It’s called ‘matching energy’. When you’re with people who complain or have a negative attitude you may find yourself acting the same way. And do you think these people want you to start being more positive? Heck no! You’ll ruin their joy! Some people actually enjoy being negative. And some people may not want you to be happy. I know a person who is enjoying a new romantic relationship after being single for many years. I watched her slowly make separations from the negative people in her life. She focused on herself. She set personal goals and met them; she lost weight, she started working out with a personal trainer, she got her finances grounded. She spent time with people who supported her in a positive way. She used hypnosis and meditation tools to work on her inner self. She’s happy. And – she stopped complaining!

2. Are you still looking in the past and playing the victim game? If yes then stop! Stop doing that right now! All you’re doing is making excuses for why you can’t be successful today. I recently heard of someone in their thirties complaining that she’s not a professional right now because of a living/work situation she was in during her teen-age years. This is called being stuck on a picture. Please don’t misunderstand me. I know many people have experienced horrible things and I’m not speaking lightly of past-time pain. But you have a choice. You can learn tools to help set you free from the victim role. You can re-frame your mind and practice positive thinking. You can let go of the painful past by admitting the hurt and resentment, then practice letting it go. You deserve so much more!

3. Write your own prescription for happiness. This may sound trite, but it’s surprisingly effective. Dedicate some quiet time for yourself. When you feel ready, create a list of things you’d really love to do. This isn’t a bucket list. These are things you’ve been thinking about for a long time that you believe can never happen or wonder how will it all work out? Don’t worry about the steps it’ll take to get there, start by writing them down! I worked with a client last year who had been unhappy for quite some time. He felt like he was stuck in a rut. He had a job but he realized it was just to pay his bills, he wasn’t happy going to work each day. Our first task was focused on re-framing his mind with work. He was able to find gratitude that he had a job and didn’t have to worry about finances. When I asked him what he’d love to do if there was nothing blocking him he started to smile. Then he started to talk. And talk. And talk. He wanted to be a spiritual teacher. During hypnosis I guided his subconscious to show him ways he could turn his passion into reality. Several months later he was offering free lectures. The free lectures blossomed into paid classes. He’s still working at his other job, but he’s found joy and passion by activating his personal prescription for happiness.

2014 is almost here. You have 365 clean sheets of paper waiting for you to express your thoughts, your intentions and goals. You can create whatever you choose, it’s only a thought away!

“Once someone asked me if I knew where God was. Yes, I replied, He’s in your ATTITUDE and when you ask Him, He will heal it!” – Rev. Wm. H. Duby
