Little house in the woods on New Year's night

You have the power and the ability to make this year your best one yet. That’s right, and wishing and hoping has nothing to do with it!

It’s not about New Years Resolutions. It’s not about creating goals. It’s not about what you wish and hope will happen. It’s about making a decision and keeping your mind focused on the positive once that decision has been made! What kind of decision you ask? How about deciding to stay more positive in the face of adversity? How about dedicating a few minutes every day for quiet, inner reflection? How about deciding to cancel out the negative chatter before you think those thoughts too long? How about finding five things each day that you’re thankful for? How about doing service work someplace once a month? Decide to do these steps and you will have created your best year yet. The rest of what you want to manifest will easily follow.

Are goals important? Yes! Why? Because you need to have a picture to focus on. Remember, the Universe is a bountiful, gracious, 360º Giver. But it needs a form in which to pour itself into. Imagine a pitcher full of clear refreshing water. You are very thirsty. Won’t that water taste great? The Universe wants to give you this water. But if you don’t have a glass, where will the water go? The same is true with goals. You need to have a clear picture with what you want. “I want to be happy” isn’t a clear picture, there’s no place to pour that water. “I will walk for twenty minutes every morning and I will be happy” is a picture.

The next step is to take some time, each day, to imagine yourself walking those twenty minutes every morning. Really get into it. Imagine you can smell the smells, feel the morning air, hear the sounds and FEEL the happiness! Then, let it go! You’ve just sent your order to the Universe. You’ve wrapped that order with images and feelings (positive emotions). Now the Universe has a form to pour its life-giving energy into. Take time each day to energize this goal, this mock-up, and sooner than you think you’ll find yourself walking for twenty minutes every morning without any effort at all.

How would this apply to a long-term goal? Let’s pretend you want to buy a new car. You don’t know how this will happen, you just know you want a new car. Start looking in magazines for the type of car you want. Cut out pictures and put them on a board that you can see every day. Visit some car dealerships and go on test drives. Get the feeling of this new car. Don’t worry about the when and how it will manifest.

Each day, spend time imagining you have that new car, just like your morning walk exercise. Imagine you’re driving it, feel the excitement, the happiness etc. Then….let it go! Once again, you’ve just sent a powerful picture to the Universe of what you want to bring into your life.

Law of Assumption: Here’s the missing ingredient to the Law of Attraction. Once you’ve taken the time to do the mental work of picturing and feeling what you want, get up and ACT as if you already have it! Pretend your present car is that brand new one. Pretend you have it parked in the driveway or on the street. Don’t allow the thoughts of doubt to creep in. (If you have not yet read and worked with my previous posts on how to let go of the old patterns, I encourage you to do so!) Keep your mind focused on the decision that you made. Then trust that the Universal Giver will honor those thoughts when the timing is best.

Testimony: This is how I got my new car. When I resigned from my church I had to return the company car. That summer I was driving my daughter around in her car because she had knee surgery and couldn’t drive. As I was driving her car I kept wondering what my new car would be. As I was driving her car I kept imagining it was my new car. I did this every time I was driving her car. Less than two months after returning to Berkeley my husband found a car he wanted me to look at: it was the exact car my daughter had; same brand, same make, same everything, just the color was different.

Testimony #2: My husband decided he wanted a new car. I told him to go for it, the Universe would provide. Once he decided to buy the car, I received many new clients and students – the same day he made the decision. See?

You can use this technique to manifest anything: A new place to live, a new office, a relationship, better health. Get a clear picture of what you want. Picture and feel what it’s like to have it, then live each day as if it’s already yours!

Is there work involved? Yes, but if you’ve been working with these posts you’ll discover it isn’t work at all. It’s an exciting journey as you discover your power and ability to create your future starting now!

Blessings to all and Happy New Year!

As we move into this Holiday Season, I invite you to take a moment and reflect on everything you are truly thankful for in life. Too often days are spent with unconscious complaining about the smallest things; no place to park, being stuck in traffic or waiting too long in the check-out line at the grocery store. But when you think about it, these are the complaints of a very prosperous nation. Are these really problems? I don’t believe so. Annoyances at most, but not real problems.

I was blessed to spend Thanksgiving day with a friend who hosted a dinner for a group of men recently paroled from prison. For several, this was their first ‘free’ Thanksgiving in more than 21 years. These individuals became certified alcohol drug counselors while incarcerated who are now counselors at a recovery treatment program in the Bay Area. As we went around the table saying what we were thankful for, I was humbled by their positive attitude and true gratitude for life. It confirmed for me, once more, that I really have no problems in my life. Challenges, yes. Annoyances, of course. But problems? Not at all! What about you?

When you give thanks for all the positive things in your life, you are energizing your life with positive energy. I remember saying this on a live, call-in radio show I used to host many years ago. A man called-in saying he liked what I said but he really had nothing positive to focus on. He lost his family in a divorce, he lost his job in the dot-com-bomb and was living in his car, homeless.

I simply pointed out the obvious things: He had ears with which to listen to the radio show, he had a mouth to speak his opinion, his body was healthy and he had a car to sleep in, not to mention whatever phone he was using to call the show. Start where you are, I told him and the ripples would begin to expand. He actually started to laugh. He had a change in perspective.

In order to live the abundant lifestyle it’s important to bless and accept exactly where you are in the moment, not where you want to be. Once you allow yourself to be happy where you’re at, you’ll recognize you don’t have to stay there and changes will begin to take place.

Each day, give thanks for a minimum of five things in your life. I’d prefer you count off ten or twenty things each day, but we’ll start with small steps. Do this daily and your energy will increase, you’ll start thinking happier thoughts and you’ll start feeling better. Remember, where you put your attention, energy follows. Put your attention on the good and more good will be added to you.

Now here’s a tease for my next post as we move into the exercises for manifesting your goals and dreams: Take time each day to give thanks for the things you want that haven’t manifested in your life yet. Give thanks as if you already have them!

Till next time, peace and blessings to all who wander by to read this post!

One of the biggest challenges I see people dealing with when they want to create change is learning to be happy, or at least accept, where they are in life right now. How many times have you thought something like this: When I lose weight, I’ll be happy. When I finally have a relationship, I’ll be happy. When I have more money, I’ll be happy. When I move to a better location, I’ll be happy.

What’s your personal mantra for this? Fill in the blank for yourself: When ___________________, I’ll be happy.

All these conditions to personal happiness become the carrot being dangled out in front of you. You’re taking all your creative energy and sending it out to the future and leaving nothing to create with for the here and now. Your subconscious mind has been programmed on different levels.

Program #1) You can’t be happy right now because you haven’t met that goal.
Program #2) The belief states the goal is unattainable because so far, nothing has happened.
Program #3) There is something wrong with the way your life is today.

The first step to spiritual unfoldment is to learn to accept where you are in the moment. Once you do that the following realization is, you don’t have to stay there! By acknowledging the situations and circumstances that cause you to be unhappy is shining the light on them. Until now, you’ve been shoving them under the carpet, resisting them and wishing they’d just go away, while projecting all your feel good positive energy to some illusive time and place out into the future. This pattern gets exhausting and tends to create disease because you are not at ease in your thinking!

Does this mean you’ll never be able to create those changes? Of course not! But there is some housecleaning to be done! Are you ready? Let’s start some Mary Poppins music “Just A Spoonfull of Sugar” because this CAN be fun!

Grab your paper and pen. You’re going to create categories for the different aspects of your life. Examples:

Physical: Start with your body. Move out to your home. Your neighborhood etc. Write down what it is you don’t like about those things. Start the sentence with “I admit, I have uncomfortable feelings about……” and write them down. For instance: “I admit I have uncomfortable feelings about my weight….” By stating ‘I admit’ is akin to shining the light into a dark corner. You are acknowledging those thoughts and feelings are there. The moment you acknowledge their existence is the moment those conditions and circumstances begin to lose control over you. Take your time with this before moving to the next category.

Emotional: Write down the situations that push those emotional buttons. I admit, I get angry when I’m stuck in traffic, my boss yells at me, I admit I’m unhappy that I don’t have a relationship etc. Get them all out! The people and situations you are not neutral to – write them down!

Mental: What is the negative babble running through your mind? You know what I’m talking about, the negative self-talk that seems to flow so clear and strong. I admit I am tired of thinking I am unworthy. I admit I have negative thoughts about…you’re getting the idea now, aren’t you? That’s right!

Financial: Here’s a fun category! What can we find here? I admit I have fear about my bank account. Debt. Retirement. Write it all down. You want to purge yourself of all the uncomfortable feelings and beliefs that have been your personal roadblock to abundant living.

Spiritual: Are there stuck pictures in your subconscious mind about God and religion from your childhood? Do you believe you are not worthy to have a personal relationship with your Higher Self? Write this all down. Are you pissed at the Universe for the situation you are in today? You got it – write that down too!

Important next step! After you’ve written down what you are unhappy about from each category, go back and write down three to five aspects about those same things you are thankful for: I am grateful that I have a body. I love my eyes. I love the color of my living room walls in my home….see?. This is super important because one, you won’t be leaving yourself in a bummer state of mind after doing the exercise. And two, as you proclaim your thankfulness and gratitude for everything in your life you are actually blessing and energizing your life in the positive. You’ve finally moved onto the acceptance step and have started the process of abundant living! Now you can be at peace because you have allowed yourself to be there while knowing you can and will take the positive steps to create change. In the blog posts to come I’ll be helping you create practical goals to help you create your future how you want it to be!

If you are interested in receiving some personal help, I’m including a link to my Abundant Living Program: http://livingstonbousheyhypnosis.com/Sessions.html

Green JuiceI’m on the sixth day of a twelve day detox program. This particular cleanse is rather gentle and I’m really enjoying the process. I’m using an herbal/tincture program, drinking lots of fresh juice and eating mostly raw veggies if I get hungry. I usually do some type of internal cleanse with each season. I’m not a perfectionist. I don’t label myself a vegetarian, vegan or anything at all. I simply believe in moderation and choosing the healthy foods that are good for my body. I cleanse when I feel lethargic or heavy from over-indulging, when I desire to end an old habit that no longer serves a positive purpose in my life and when I’m getting ready to take a new step in my personal growth and want a kick-start to get me going. But a physical detox is not what this blog entry is about, however, it is the doorway into the mental detox that I believe is most important.

You’ve heard the saying, ‘you are what you eat’. I believe even more the truth, ‘you are what you think’. Every thought you think creates a physiological response in your body. Until we learn to retrain our brain to consciously think in the positive, we tend to think negative thoughts more readily. This means we get used to feeling negative feelings and just assume it’s the normal way to feel. I work with clients on a daily basis helping them to stop the negative thought process. They are usually quite surprised to become aware of the unconscious negativity flowing through their brain. They are even more surprised when they start to feel better, physically, once the negative mode as stopped.

I’m not a doctor or a nutritionist. As a hypnotist I don’t treat, diagnose or cure. But, as someone who has been practicing, using and teaching the metaphysical/mind sciences for more than thirty years, I DO know how thoughts create things. I DO know how a long-time pattern of running vibrations of anger, hatred, resentment or fear can create a physical ailment in the body. These vibrations create a state of dis-ease in your body, mind and soul. In time, the negative vibrations can nest and manifest as some type of illness. I know from personal experience.

Approximately ten years ago I had shingles. For almost a year. I could barely walk and spent most of my free time on the floor with my feet up on a chair. I never got the rash which is why the shingles went misdiagnosed for so long. I won’t go into the pain I experienced, if you’ve ever had them you already know. When the third neurologist I saw made a guess and said ‘internal shingles on your spinal cord’ (or something like that), gave me medication that cleared all symptoms super fast – I went searching for the mental cause that helped me create and manifest this dis-ease in the first place.

In the book “Heal Your Body” by Louise L. Hay, the mental cause for shingles is: Waiting for the other shoe to drop. Fear and tension. Too sensitive. Wow! Did this make sense to me. For three years prior to this I had been dealing with an extremely stressful personal situation that also involved the welfare of my children. I even remembered thinking and saying to people “I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop”. I was constantly looking over my shoulder, fearful and stressed about what might be happening next. This internal dialogue, mixed with the physical attributes helped to manifest in my body as shingles. Once I knew the mental cause I could work on the energy and cleanse my subconscious mind of those unconscious thought patterns. By the way, the opposite positive affirmation to shingles is: I am relaxed and peaceful because I trust the process of life. All is well in my world.

The Bible says, “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man, but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.” Matthew 15:11. My understanding of this verse means to watch what we think with our mind and say with our mouth. My teacher used to say the tongue was the most unruly member of the body. Harness our thoughts, watch the words we speak and notice the positive changes that will take place in the body. This is the reason I do my best not to get caught up in too many perfect pictures with what I eat. It’s also the very reason I do my best to watch the thoughts moving through me!

What about you? It’s Spring! Time for rebirth and renewal. Why not do a mental diet to cleanse out the old negative patterns in thinking? By releasing the old vibrations you are opening yourself to receive more positive things from this beautiful, abundant Universe. Here’s a simple exercise to get you started: Wear an elastic band around your wrist. Every time you catch yourself thinking a negative thought or saying something in the negative, give that elastic band a good pull and let it SNAP you! This will help remind you of the decision you’ve made to retrain your brain to release negativity and only think those positive thoughts!  I know you can do this!

If you’d like help with this process I invite you to check out my Spring Session Special:

Happy Spring. Enjoy your growth and unfoldment!

goose-and-ganderI’m working with a woman who is being treated for breast cancer. During an intuitive counseling session I mentioned that her body would really enjoy being surrounded by the colors orange and blue. She was so surprised and so shocked and replied ‘does that mean I don’t have to wear white all the time?’ I asked who told her she should only wear white. She explained that nobody told her specifically, but, she had been to Hawaii to participate in a Wayne Dyer conference. He’s been dealing with cancer and had gone to see John of God who told him to always wear white. Therefore, she assumed she should be doing the same. I explained that on a spirit level she’d really enjoy the other colors but should do what she believed to be best for her. She was actually relieved she could wear more colors and said she’d been thinking a lot about orange and blue. In her mind she now had permission to follow her heart.

How many times have you given up your information and seniority to someone else because you assume they had more knowledge than you? As a spiritual teacher/hypnotherapist I see this all the time. Change starts happening and healing begins when an individual learns how to discern their information from that of somebody else. Another way to say this is, how to tell the difference between the truth from a lie.

As healers, teachers, coaches and guides, I believe we are in a position of responsibility to help our clients go within and learn how to trust their inner knowledge. We can show them the path. We can lead them for a bit, walk along side them for a while but at some point they need to be able to feel confident in making healthy choices and decisions for themselves. To tell someone what I think is best for them or how they should do something is falling into the Guru Game of playing God. On a spirit/subconscious mind level, no one knows you better than yourself. All that’s missing are tools and techniques to help you tune in to your own answers while releasing the self-doubt and uncertainty that say otherwise.

I help people with various aspects of their personal growth and unfoldment by using different modalities. During an intuitive counseling session I psychically read the energy  of the individual. I see how that spirit is creating and manifesting life in a body; what beliefs they are stuck on, what patterns and pictures they are working with and how other people’s energies and ideas are affecting them in different areas of their life. I never tell them what to do. That is called programming. By explaining how they are experiencing energy, the client is able to start the healing process on their own. They, spirit, come into their body and blocks begin to shift and move. I’ve simply focused a flashlight in a specific area of their life for them to be able to have clarity on a situation. It’s fascinating to observe!

A hypnosis session is a little different. Instead of me explaining the pictures and energies I see in my clients space, they go on their own search mission. I’m simply the guide. When given the proper suggestions, the subconscious mind is able to go to the originating source of the problem the client is experiencing. They search, uncover, discover and make their own realizations. This is an extremely powerful modality to help regain seniority back into your life. And that’s the key to creating positive change – reclaim your personal power and seniority back into your life. It starts with the first step.

What colors do YOU want to wear today?

I was working with a client with my Abundant Living Program™. On our first day together I asked her what she wanted. “World peace” she replied. “OK”, I said, “but I don’t think you’ll get that in the time we have together, can you think of something else?” She thought for a bit then said “I’m always praying to keep my children and grandchildren safe and healthy.” “Well, that’s nice too and I’m sure your kids appreciate your prayers, but what is that YOU want for yourself?” She was stumped. And then she started to cry. Then she told me that she’s never been able to ask for anything personal and when she prays, it’s always for other people.

I asked her what she felt emotionally when she thought of praying for herself. Guilty.

I asked her what she felt emotionally when she wanted to manifest something for herself. Guilty and unworthy. Her truth – she’s never believed it was okay to want something just for her. And that’s why she was working with me, to break the cycle of lack and limitation so she could manifest abundance in her life.

Wanting something and believing you can have something are two different things. I discovered this when I first started my journey with manifestation and the Mind Sciences. I was in a class learning how to ‘mock-up’ or manifest things in life. The techniques and concepts were simple and made perfect sense to me. I was excited that soon I’d have all the things I wanted to help make my life more comfortable. I started with easy things like a free cup of coffee. Lo and behold, a few days after practicing the exercise, I was invited out for a cup of coffee. I knew I was on to something now!

At the time my only mode of transportation was a ten-speed bike. The rainy season was drawing near so I sat down one day and mocked-up a new car. I was seeing the car, imagining I was driving the car, looking forward to receiving my new car. I just wasn’t paying attention to the small voice inside of me saying ‘no way’ or the feeling of doubt I had about this car. What could go wrong? I was applying the information exactly as I had been taught.

The next time class met everyone was sharing their experiences. A student was all excited because she had been given a new car. A car much nicer than the one she already had. A car that was very similar to the car I had mocked-up for myself. I didn’t get a car, but she did. I think I actually cried a little and blurted out ‘you got my car and you don’t even need one!’ Our teacher used my experience as the object lesson for class that night.

I discovered my subconscious mind was acting on a deep rooted belief system of lack, limitation and no permission to increase or bring new things into my life. Not only did I feel guilty if I asked for something for myself, I didn’t believe I could have things that easily. I had to work hard for whatever I received.

This was a two-fold imprint in my subconscious mind. One aspect was the thoughts and feelings I was carrying deep within me that stemmed from my childhood and the conversations I heard my parents talking/fighting about over money. Money doesn’t grow on trees, only certain people get ahead in life…. you get the idea.

The other aspect was based in religion. It wasn’t spiritual to want things. Don’t be greedy. Don’t be selfish. Always think of the other person first. To be spiritual meant you shouldn’t have money or nice things. Has anyone reading this post ever experienced something similar?

What about you? Do you have a difficult time creating a picture for what you want? Do you feel guilty if you ask for something or pray for yourself? Do you say you want certain things but deep down don’t believe you can have them? This can be anything; health, finances, relationships, or a successful business.

I’ll be creating a series of posts that address these issues. The Autumn season is the perfect time of year to release blocks and old patterns of belief in lack, limitation and ‘non-havingness’. I’ll include simple exercises you can do to help clear out your subconscious mind so you can manifest more abundant living.

You can start now. Write down a list of things you want to bring into your life. What is it that you want? And how do you feel about wanting?
